Biltong is a fabulous tasting high protein snack, that is cured, not cooked. Retaining most of the nutrients, it really packs a protein punch and can easily replace some or all of your meat sandwich filler alternatives.

If you choose to replace your meat sandwich fillings with Biltong, then not only will it be more healthy, the sandwich will take longer to eat too (because of the slightly chewy texture), which fools your body into thinking it has had more to eat.

Below are some tasty, healthy Sandwich Ideas to make sure you never get bored of eating Biltong.

Biltong, Rocket and Parmesan Panini with Mayonnaise

Ingredients you will need:

  • Panini
  • Mayonnaise
  • Biltong
  • Rocket
  • Parmesan

Sandwich Making Process:

  • Slice your panini in half longways.
  • Spread the bottom half lightly with Mayonnaise.
  • Add Biltong, and then top with rocket and Parmesan shavings.
  • Top with the remaining half of your Panini bread.

Ready to eat or even better toasted. You can swap the Mayonnaise with Mustard if you prefer, or use olive oil if you wish too.

Biltong, Red Onion and Avocado Sandwich

Ingredients you will need:

  • 2 Slices of bread (white or brown, soft is best)
  • Butter
  • Red Onion (sliced)
  • Avocado (sliced)
  • Biltong of your choice (original is best)

Sandwich Making Process:

  • Spread two slices of bread with butter (brown or white, soft bread is best)
  • Slice some red Onion and layer a few rings onto one slice of bread butter side up.
  • Slice some Avocado and layer this on top, this gives a creaminess to the sandwich.
  • Top with Biltong slices (original is best).
  • Put the second slice of bread butter side down on top.
  • Slice in half diagonally.

Ready to eat, or your sandwich can be wrapped and stored in a fridge to eat later that same day. .

Cheesy Biltong Toasted Sandwich – You will need a toastie making machine

Ingredients you will need:

  • 2 Slices of bread
  • Butter
  • Parmesan or Wensleydale Cheese (or cheese of choice)
  • Chopped Chives (optional)
  • Biltong of your choice (original is best, but Piri Piri gives it an added kick)

Sandwich Making Process:

  • Spread two slices of bread with butter (brown or white, soft bread is best).
  • Slice some cheese (parmesan or wensleydale is perfect) onto one slice of bread, butter side DOWN (this ensures it does not stick to your toastie maker).
  • Add some Biltong (cut into small pieces).
  • Add some chopped chives (optional)
  • On the other slice of bread, add some dijon mustard to the unbuttered side and put this butter side OUT on top of the sandwich.
  • Place in the toastie making machine and cook until golden brown.
