Biltong for Athletes: The Perfect Training Snack

As a 25-year-old strength athlete, I've been following a focused training protocol supported by strategic nutrition. Biltong was key in fueling and recovering from these intense sessions for 10 days. The anabolic transformation was incredible!


Training Structure


Each gym session follows a structure:

  • One main compound movement at 70-95% of 1 rep max (1RM)

Storage and shelf-life

Proper biltong storage requires airtight containers or resealable bags in cool, dry environments between 15°C and 25°C to prevent moisture absorption and maintain quality. If you do this and haven't already opened the pack, it should last for at least 12 months. But if you somehow manage to open a pack without eating it all, then it's usually recommended to eat within 48 hours. Unless you have a resealable bag, then it will last for up to 5 days or 12 in the fridge.
