WHAT IS BILTONG?
Biltong, a beloved South African treasure, is a masterpiece of meat preservation. It all began with the indigenous people of South Africa, who dried and salted their hunted meat to ensure its lasting quality.
The process was simple yet effective. Meat was hung and delicately salted, allowing its goodness to endure for weeks and accompany explorers on their journeys....
“When I think back to my childhood, what I remember most is my family, friends and fresh air. While I played outside – barefoot under the African sun – my family made truly artisanal biltong using natural spice blends, recipes and traditional processes handed down from generation to generation. Slowly but surely, I inherited my family’s profound passion for producing real, authentic food with a healthy respect for the environment."
WHY OUR BILTONG?
We are obsessed with biltong. It runs deep in our blood. Our British & Irish grass fed silverside beef is naturally reared and traceable back to the farm. We are hands on in the process ensuring that we are still producing an artisanal biltong product of exceptional quality. We aren’t into the next big thing, we are into the craftsmanship and curating of the finest cured meats possible. We concentrate on keeping the nutritional content high, and the salt content low whilst producing a meat snack worthy of attention.
THE NUMBERS MATTER
Biltong is high in protein, low in carbohydrates, low in calories and a nutritional food snack that rivals many other snack alternatives. Biltong is a convenient way of getting a quality serving of protein. Including protein in your diet, not only assists with weight loss or maintenance, but it also stabilises blood sugar levels which manages hunger, improves concentration and repairs tissue and muscle – you can’t get that out of a bag of crisps.
