Who we are

THE ORIGINAL BILTONG COMPANY LTD, Unit F, Chiltern Commerce Centre, 45 Asheridge Road, Chesham, HP5 2PY ("we", "us") runs theoriginalbiltongcompany.co.uk and decides how your personal information is used. Contact us at hello@theoriginalbiltongcompany.co.uk.

What we collect

  • Orders and accounts: your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing address, what you ordered, and your order history. Payments are handled by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Subscriptions: your chosen products, frequency and renewal dates.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you asked to hear from us by email or text, and when.
  • Messages and reviews: anything you send us or write in a review.
  • Website use: your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view and how you arrived, collected through cookies and similar technology.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To take and deliver your order and look after you afterwards (contract), including subscriptions, delivery updates, refunds and customer service.
  • To keep records and meet tax and accounting law (legal obligation).
  • To prevent fraud, keep the site secure and understand how it is used (legitimate interests).
  • To send you marketing by email or text (consent, or for existing customers our legitimate interest in telling you about similar products, always with a way to opt out). See below.
  • Advertising and non-essential cookies (consent, through our cookie banner where it applies).

Email and text marketing

We email or text you about our products if you ticked the marketing box at checkout or on a sign-up form, or if you are an existing customer and we are telling you about similar products. The marketing box is never ticked for you. Every message has an unsubscribe link, and texts can be stopped by replying STOP. You can also email us at any time and we will stop. Unsubscribing does not affect order and delivery messages.

Who we share it with

We share only what is needed with: our online shop platform and payment providers (Shopify and its payment partners); Royal Mail and our warehouse and fulfilment partner, to pack and deliver your order; our subscriptions, reviews and email and text providers; and analytics and advertising providers such as Google, Meta, TikTok and Hotjar. We do not sell your personal information. We may also share it where the law requires.

Sending information abroad

Some of these providers are outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on UK-approved safeguards, such as an adequacy decision or the UK addendum to standard contractual clauses.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Some are essential to run the shop and basket. Others measure how the site is used and help us show relevant advertising. Use the cookie banner or your browser settings to control them. Blocking some cookies may stop parts of the site working.

How long we keep it

We keep order and payment records for 6 years for tax and accounting. We keep marketing details until you unsubscribe, and we review them regularly and stop contacting people who have not engaged for a long time. We keep customer service messages for as long as needed to deal with your query and any follow-up.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. You can object to direct marketing at any time and we will stop. Email hello@theoriginalbiltongcompany.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

Our shop is not aimed at anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
