Some moments in business you never quite see coming. We're not usually ones to dwell, but honesty has always been at the core of what we do—so we wanted to share a bit of what's been happening behind the scenes with you, our loyal tribe.

On Friday the 22nd of February 2025, something pretty unexpected happened. A fire next door damaged our production facility, leaving us at a standstill. For a company built on passion, care, and consistency, it was a gut punch—one of those moments that stops you in your tracks.

But if there's one thing we know at The Original Biltong Company, it's that resilience is built into who we are. From the beginning, we've believed in doing things properly—crafting authentic biltong with patience, dedication, and a bit of British grit. So when faced with this challenge, there was only one way forward: rebuild, restore, and come back stronger.

Picking Up the Pieces, One Day at a Time

The moment the dust settled (quite literally), our first thought was simple: How do we get back to producing the premium biltong you know and love?

Since then, every member of The Original Biltong Company family has rolled up their sleeves, determined to rebuild not just a factory but the very heart of our business.

Week by week, piece by piece, our production space is being transformed—getting ever closer to where British biltong is made the right way, following our traditional South African biltong recipe, using only grass-fed beef and heaps of care.

We'll be honest—halting production completely has been no easy feat. Knowing how many of you rely on us for your high-protein snacks has been challenging. But what's kept us going is the incredible support from all of you.

Meet the People Behind the Biltong

"Writing this post was challenging, and the whole team has been helping put this together.

Last month, we experienced a major incident in which our production facility sustained significant damage from a fire in the adjacent building. Since then, we have been putting together plans to get the company we cherish and that customers love, back to producing amazing, high-quality Biltong.

The past month has been all about rebuilding. Every team member has been working tirelessly to get the factory fully refurbished. Piece by piece, our factory and company are a step closer to being up and running.

Having to halt production completely has made these weeks challenging, to say the least. The genuine support and understanding from our amazing tribe have been incredible, and everyone here at The Original Biltong Company has been blown away by all of you out there rooting for us.

We are getting closer to being up and running each day, and we can't wait. We hope you are as excited about this as we are.
